DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A person in New Jersey beat the odds Tuesday to win the $1.12 billion Mega Millions lottery jackpot, breaking a streak of no-win draws dating back to December.

The winning combination was 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and Mega Ball 4. The winning ticket was sold in New Jersey, according to the Mega Millions website.

As of Tuesday, no one had matched all six numbers to win the jackpot in the last 30 drawings, dating back to December 8.

Achieving the game’s jackpot is difficult because the chances of finding the winning combination are very slim, one in 302.6 million.

Tuesday’s prize is the eighth highest in US lottery history.

The 1.1200 million jackpot is for a winner who decides to collect the prize in annuities, with an initial payment and then 29 years. Most of the winners choose to receive the cash prize, which would be $537.5 million.

The next big lottery drawing will be held on Wednesday: Powerball has an estimated jackpot of $865 million. No one has won that prize since New Year’s Day, which means 36 draws in a row without a winner.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, plus Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball is played in those places and in Puerto Rico.
