TikTok: How to Limit Who Can Send You Direct Messages

Here in the MacMagazinewe’ve already shown how you can limit who can mention you in TikTok.

Well, know that you can also do something similar for your direct messages, that is, those that remain private within the application. This way, you prevent unwanted people from getting in touch with you.

Check out how to do it!

On iPhone/iPad, open TikTok and tap the “Profile” tab in the bottom right corner. Then, select the button represented by three little lines (in the upper right corner) and go to “Settings and privacy”.

In the “Account” area, tap “Privacy” and then “Direct Messages” (in the “Interactions” section). Then select “Direct Messages” to choose who can send you these messages:

  • All
  • suggested friends
  • With friends you follow who follow you back
  • Nobody

Below, under “Group Chats”, choose who can send you invitations to chat with more people: your friends or nobody.

In the “Messages Preferences” area, you can enable/disable options for filtered requests and also read status (so people can know if you’ve read messages they send).
