Feel-good atmosphere in connection with creative architecture. Individual planning and a high degree of prefabrication enable short construction times for timber construction projects.

Timber construction is in vogue and this applies not only to residential construction or some office buildings, but also to the hotel industry. More and more hoteliers and restaurateurs are relying on wood as a material for a combination of feel-good atmosphere, nature, modern design and charming down-to-earthness. Guild master Friedrich Egger from the state timber construction guild is convinced that “building with wood stands for comfort and the highest quality”. According to Egger, the natural building material wood is rapidly gaining ground in the holiday hotel industry.

Quality timber construction with authenticity and modern zeitgeist

Master wood builder Josef Rainer emphasizes that “the modern, constructive quality wood construction has absolutely nothing to do with the folkloric-kitschy lederhosen style of construction. It’s more about authenticity and modern zeitgeist.” Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication of the timber construction, tourism professionals can also benefit from shorter implementation times and only have to interrupt their operations for a much shorter time.

The number of “hotels and inns built entirely of wood or their extensions and roof structures is increasing rapidly,” emphasizes Rainer. Each project is planned individually according to the ideas of the client and still uses all the advantages of dry timber construction, such as the high degree of prefabrication, the short construction time and the high insulation values.

The Salzburg Timber Construction Prize 2023 also underscores the trend towards wooden hotels

The suite towers of the Moar Gut family nature resort in Grossarl received an award in the commercial buildings category. The new suite towers act as central and identity-forming structures. “The arrangement of two solitary structures and their position in relation to each other creates an exciting structure that confidently blends into the surrounding natural environment,” says the description of the project.

The suites reflect a picture of restrained elegance, which not only has a calming effect due to the reduced equipment and furnishings, but also focuses on nature. This is in no way inconsistent with the noble construction and furnishings. “The polygonal floor plan design and the spatial concept of the partially merging areas let the effect of the wood material come into its own in an impressive way. In terms of timber construction, the suite towers impress with the highest processing and execution quality.” Guild master Friedrich Egger is therefore convinced that the local gastronomy and hotel industry will increasingly rely on wood as a building material in the future.
