Sicily and Sardinia are missing from the logo that represents Italy at the current holiday fair in Vienna. This sparked outrage among Sicilian politicians. The Sicilian mayors representing the Sicily pavilion at the Vienna Holiday Fair said it was “unacceptable that the two largest islands, Sicily and Sardinia, are clearly excluded from such an important trade fair for international tourism.” “At a time when we are trying to launch a new policy for national and regional tourism, we consider this unacceptable,” said the Sicilian mayors present at the fair.
The Italian embassy in Vienna, together with the Enit tourist association and the foreign trade company ICE, represents Italy at the open trade fair. Also present are representatives of the regions of Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Calabria and an association of Sicilian municipalities.
The case also concerns the Sicilian EU parliamentarian Pietro Bartolo. “Italy without Sicily and Sardinia would no longer be the country that the whole world envies, especially when it comes to the environment, sea and culture,” said the MEP.
At the International Holiday Fair for Holidays, Travel and Leisure in Vienna, around 850 exhibitors show the audience interesting holiday and vacation suggestions. The fair, which began on Thursday, runs until Sunday.
