Tomography shows differences between fake AirPods Pro and original models

After the Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable, now it was the turn of AirPods Pro undergoing computed tomography of the Lumafield. The interesting thing is that, in this case, the headphones were compared to two counterfeit versions of theirs, which allows us to further highlight the details of the engineering carried out by Apple and which counterfeiters are unable to copy.

The structure of the forgeries drew attention because it was simpler (much less sophisticated, so to speak). It is possible to see, for example, wires that connect components, as well as solders scattered around the inside of the counterfeit headphones, something that is not observed in the original AirPods.

The world is full of counterfeit Apple products. We scanned two fake AirPods with a CT scan and compared them to the real ones… ????

While the battery of the original model — which is coin-shaped — and the components of the original model are made precisely, to occupy the space to the millimeter, those of the counterfeit versions are much simpler. In these cases, there are rectangular batteries in circular spaces, for example, as well as common electronics and less safe and lower quality components.

The original model also has three microphones: one pointing downwards, another outward and a third inside the ear, with which the equalizer works in real time. Counterfeit ones, in turn, only have a rudimentary microphone at the bottom.

In the case of the case, only the case for the original AirPods has magnets for the MagSafe charger and the Apple Watch’s magnetic charger in addition to the wireless charging coils. Only one of the fakes analyzed supported induction charging, although without magnets. Counterfeits also only have one battery, while the original model’s case has two.

In this context, something that is at least curious is that the counterfeit models, as they have a much simpler structure and only one battery in the case, in addition to not having magnets, had pesos inserted into its structure. The idea seems to have been that the headphones wouldn’t seem so light when compared to the original models.

In addition to the AirPods, Lumafield subjected the 85W charger that comes with the MacBooks’ MagSafe 2 charger to tomography, comparing it to a counterfeit version. Again, the original model has a more complex structure, including components for energy conditioning and conversion. Counterfeit, in turn, does not have filtering features that guarantee greater security and longevity.

Another factor analyzed were the heat sinks. Although the counterfeit has a larger one, it is simpler than the original model, dissipating less heat than the original charger, which requires more manufacturing steps to be made. The counterfeit model’s grounding pin does not work either, as it is not connected to any circuit inside the charger.

The complete analysis of the CT scans can be seen on this pagewith the possibility of viewing images with greater precision.
