Whether 14 seconds or 34 seconds are available to cross the multi-lane road at the crossing Große Ungarbrücke/Am Heumarkt depends on the two parties involved. On the one hand, the parents speak of 14 seconds of green, including green flashing, for 25 meters of zebra crossings. That is too short to get to the other side of the street with a child when the light turns green.
Different is the view of the responsible MA 33 – Vienna shines. In a statement to Radio Vienna, it was said that during the day the green time, including green flashing, was 16 seconds for the affected protection route. There is also an additional “clearance time” of 18 seconds. During this time, the pedestrian traffic light is already red, but cross traffic is also still red. According to MA 33, a total of 34 seconds are available to cross the street. This corresponds to the applicable guidelines.
Times matched to walking speeds
The applicable guidelines would take into account the walking speeds of older people and children, MA 33 continued. This would guarantee that traffic safety is given for all road users. In addition, the green phases are coordinated with the high traffic frequency in the affected area.
MA 33 also pointed out that so far there have been no complaints about the green phase in the affected area.
