Even before the last meeting of the 25th day of Top 14, three teams were able to raise their arms to the sky this Saturday. Indeed, thanks to their victory against Toulon and Pau, Racing 92 and UBB ensured their qualification for the final phase. The Parisians are also certain to finish in the top 6 even before their match against Lyon.
We already know five of the six teams that will participate in the final phase of the Top 14 this season! La Rochelle and Stade Toulousain were already certain to extend their season beyond the regular phase of the championship.
This Saturday, Charentais and Haut-Garonnais were joined by three teams: Racing 92, UBB and Stade Français.
Regarding the first cities, they only needed a victory to secure their place in the play-off. The Ile-de-France residents did better, since they signed an improved victory (41-7) against a revamped Toulon formation.
For UBB, it was different. Before moving on the lawn of the RCT on the final day, the Unionists knew that only a five-point victory opened the doors to paradise for them. That’s what they did with an authoritative 28-0 success against Pau, with four tries scored.
The Parisians, who play this Sunday evening against Lyon, are officially qualified after the defeat of Toulon in Le Havre against Racingmen. The Pink Soldiers will be part of the final phase.
Five teams for two Champions Cup places
On Matchday 26, the race for the Champions Cup will rage. They are five for two places. The Bayonnais and the Toulonnais are currently in a good position but Montpellier, Castres and Clermont can still hope to snatch a ticket for the biggest of the European Cups. The Clermontois can at best finish eighth, they will need an improved victory against Racing 92, in addition to the combined losses of Toulon, Montpellier and Castres.
As a reminder, in two weeks, Bayonne will move to Lyon while the RCT will host the UBB on its Mayol lawn. In case of victory, these two formations will not be worried.
