Last Saturday of summer… we treat ourselves with five beautiful bottles. Drink now or, better, keep in reserve for a few years to magnify their attributes.

Drink less. Drink better.

Domaine Vincent Carême, Sec 2022, Vouvray, France

29,20 $ – Code SAQ 11633612 – 13 % – bio

Super organically grown Chenin and masterfully vinified by Vincent Carême. Nose overflowing with white fruits, honey and wax, with an impression of rubbed pebbles. The palate is full, soft while showing a beautiful liveliness. Beautiful bitters on the finish bring extra character. What happiness!

Domaine Ninot, Mercurey Premier Cru Les Crêts 2019, France

61,50 $ – Code SAQ 15136218 – 13 %

You’ll have to be quick to get your hands on the last bottles in the SAQ network. With the prices of Burgundy wines literally exploding, this premier cru from Mercurey remains a “good deal”. It’s suave, quite concentrated with fine and well-integrated tannins. It “tingles” on the nose with tones of cherry, humus and spices. Good persistence and already very drinkable. Could develop further over the next five to eight years.

Muga, Reserva Special Selection 2018, Rioja, Spain

49,25 $ – Code SAQ 12986612 – 14 %

The Lord Tempranillo, which makes up nearly 70% of the blend, teams up here with Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo. Aged for a long time in barrels, the wine is immensely charming without falling into caricature. Bewitching nose of ink, black fruits and graphite. Concentrated material with elegant tannins leaving a velvety impression on the palate. Long and accessible now, it has everything it takes to improve for around ten years in the cellar.

★★★★ $$$$

E. Guigal, Saintes Pierres de Nalys 2019, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France

62,75 $ – Code SAQ 15182222 – 15,5 %

Barely a few years since the arrival of the Guigal family at the helm of this very pretty Castelneuvois estate and the quality of the wines has progressed spectacularly! The blend, dominated 2/3 by Grenache, is disconcertingly fresh. You really feel like you’re biting into the fruit with an explosion of flavors: plum, fig, licorice, rose, lavender, thyme, black pepper, coffee, balsamic. The richness and density of the material impress as much as the ease with which the wine is drunk, thanks to the invigorating acidity and fine bitterness. However, we are talking about almost 16% alcohol on the meter and not even the shadow of a burning sensation. A real tour de force not to be missed. Delicious now and for the next ten years without problem.

Labastide Dauzac 2018, Margaux, France

49,00 $ – Code SAQ 15177221 – 14,5 %

I am often skeptical about the “second” wines of the great châteaux of Bordeaux (which are usually made from young vines which are not included in the composition of the “great” wine, quite simply because we often find “first” wines from Bordeaux producers at the same price which are much more interesting; try to compare this one with the Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc 2018 For example). That of Château Dauzac, a fifth Grand Cru Classé from Margaux, is very charming while showing the limits of the exercise. The Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons release aromas of blackcurrant, leather and roasting. The palate is ample and has tannins well integrated into the good richness, but it is also powerful and quite short in the finish. It will look much better at the table accompanied by a steak and a few fries.
