Before the final game of the first half of the season in the HLA CHALLENGE promotion playoff, three teams are tied at the top of the table with Sportunion Leoben, medalp Handball Tirol and Union Sparkasse Korneuburg.
Only one point behind is UHC Hollabrunn, who welcomes Montanstadt on Saturday and can overtake them with a home win. Should that happen, the winner of the Sunday duel Handball Tirol vs. Korneuburg can take the sole lead in the table.
Stay tuned is the motto for HIB Grosschädl Stahl Graz and SK Keplinger-Traun, who will face each other on Saturday. With the 32:32 against medalp Handball Tirol before the national team break, the Upper Austrians caused the Tiroleans to lose their first points of the season. Graz suffered two narrow defeats in the first two duels and is currently still without points in the promotion playoff.
FIVERS are about to stay up
HC FIVERS WAT Margareten 2 has 13 points on their credit side and is nine points ahead of bottom-placed Koppensteiner WAT Fünfhaus, which has only played one game. With a home win over the UHC Tulln on Saturday, the FIVERS can end all calculation games early on and fix the league.
Fünfhaus and Tulln are already under pressure. The two teams are separated by just two points and the fourth-placed Wachau team from Brixton Fire Krems Langenlois have a small cushion over the two stragglers. The bottom of the table will go to Krems on Sunday, where there has been nothing to gain so far this season.
WAT Atzgersdorf, who is a guest at the Sportunion Die FALKEN Bachner Bau at the weekend, is about to fix relegation. A win by Atzgersdorf with a simultaneous loss by Fünfhaus and you can start planning for the next HLA CHALLENGE season.
In the relegation playoff of the HLA CHALLENGE North/West, from which there will be no relegation this season and which will only be played in the first half of the season, there will be the following pairings: HcB Lauterach vs. SG HC LINZ AG / EDELWEISS, Spider Wels vs .UHC Salzburg and Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol FT vs. ALPLA HC Hard FT.

Start of the quarterfinals / top game of the HLA CHALLENGE
The time has come for the playoff in the HLA MEISTERLIGA – on Saturday, Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol will face the reigning champions ALPLA HC Hard in the first game of the quarter-final series (7 p.m., LIVE on LAOLA1). In the HLA CHALLENGE, medalp Handball Tirol welcomes Union Sparkasse Korneuburg on Sunday (3:00 p.m.); the Tyrolean Future Team will have the Harder Future Team as guests at 6 p.m.
The basic round is long gone, from now on the HLA MEISTERLIGA is about who will be crowned Champion 2022. Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol meets defending champion ALPLA HC Hard in the best-of-three series of the quarter-finals and first has to play away on Saturday – live on LAOLA1. Next Wednesday game two will take place in the Schwaz Osthalle (7.30 p.m., live on K19) – a possible third match would again take place in Hard on April 30th.
“We did very well at the last guest appearance in Hard, and we want to build on that. We’ve shown that we can keep up with the champions and be good for a surprise,” emphasizes Handball Tirol player coach Gerald Zeiner, who of course hopes to delay the announced end of his career for as long as possible. “Now it’s time to mobilize the last reserves of strength after the long season. The teams know each other inside out, there won’t be too many unexpected things. We have to put our fighting hearts in hand and believe in promotion.” The Adler have to do without Balthasar Huber, who was suspended for eight competitive games – four of them unconditionally – due to the blue card in the game against Bregenz. The Tyroleans have appealed, but the line runner will definitely be absent on Saturday; as well as the convalescent Emanuel Petrusic and Thomas Wörgötter. Otherwise everyone is on board and after two narrow defeats in the regular season they want to win their first win of the season against ALPLA Hard.
In the HLA CHALLENGE there are two home games for the HT teams on Sunday. The Future Team welcomes the HC Hard Future Team in the east hall. Both teams clearly won their opening games in the relegation round North/West, now it’s about first place.
In the promotion playoff, medalp Handball Tirol expects the home game against Union Sparkasse Korneuburg, who have the same number of points – both opponents started well with three points, medalp HT lost a point for the first time after the win in Graz with the draw against Traun. Korneuburg won the first game against Hollabrunn 27:22, then lost a six-goal lead at Leoben and had to settle for a 24:24. HT trainer Klaus Hagleitner: “That will be a yardstick for us, so we can see how far we have come. Korneuburg is definitely an aspirant for promotion and has delivered two very good games so far. We’re in a good position after two rounds, but we should have won against Traun. You learn from games like that, we knew that the playoffs wouldn’t go on like they did in the regular season. We have to work hard for everything.”
