Whether local or tourist, numerous gourmet addresses around Lake Wörthersee are well known beyond the borders of Austria. But the region has even more to offer. From the down-to-earth inn right on the water to the brand new rooftop, we have tips from the locals’ perspective.
This is where boat owners and Wörthersee locals come together to enjoy down-to-earth delicacies in the first row, foot-free on the shore of the lake. A casual, cozy atmosphere without a dress code, but with attractive prices and refreshing drinks make the Strandcafe Weisses Rössl the ideal stopover on the southern shore road.

On the north-east side of Lake Wörthersee is Krumpendorf, which also has a number of recommended restaurants. An insider tip among them is the Soleo restaurant in the hotel of the same name. The family business, which has been managed by daughter Ines Frank since this year, impresses with Austrian-Mediterranean cuisine in a warm atmosphere.

The southern side of Lake Wörthersee is all about the gastro success concept of 4-toque chef Hubert Wallner. Although not directly within sight but within walking distance of the lake and close to numerous other excursion destinations such as vantage points, the Orathai Schiffwirt is in a prime location between Pörtschach and Krumpendorf. The Schiffwirt as such has existed since 1931, and in 2019 filmmaker David Spies and his wife Orathai turned the inn into a new scene bar with creative Austrian-Thai fusion cuisine. Must have tried!

Brand new and already the hip address for this summer – and certainly for the ones to come. The rooftop tapas bar “See La Vie” recently opened on the roof of the Seehotel Europa in Velden. International tapas and excellent drinks with a view of the lake are available daily from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. except Wednesday.
