The best-seller 3008 goes all-electric
Reworked grille, redesigned lines, new connected cockpit… Peugeot has decided to revisit one of its spearheads: the 3008. The new version of the SUV, whose marketing is scheduled for February 2024, was unveiled on Tuesday September 12 from the The historic production site of Sochaux (Doubs), recently modernized. The new e-3008 is a bet for Peugeot and its parent company Stellantis: it is the first time that this model is available in an all-electric version. And even if the aesthetic evolution of the model is minor, it is always difficult to renew a bestseller.
Laura Maersk, first methanol-powered container ship
The baptism took place with great pomp and respect for tradition: the President of the European Commission Ursula Van der Leyen broke a bottle of champagne on the bow of the Laura Maersk on Thursday September 14. The ship, with a capacity of 2,100 20-foot containers, is the world’s first container ship to be powered by methanol. It is presented as “an important step towards the long-term objective of replacing the entire Maersk fleet to operate solely on green fuels”, indicates the carrier in a press release. 24 methanol vessels are to be delivered to the Danish company by 2027.

The iPhone 15 (finally) uses the universal charger
Presented on September 12, the latest iPhone complies with European Union regulations by providing its new smartphones with a universal charging port, USB type C, while the Apple firm previously used a proprietary loading port. The new products also benefit from new photo sensors… which complicate the logistics chain and slow down the assembly of the 15 and 15 Plus models. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would face challenges in assembling the screens and the titanium alloy chassis.
Fiber-reinforced concrete, an alternative (3D printed) to reinforced concrete
A new type of 3D printed concrete reinforced with long fibers, combining strength, freedom of form and respect for the environment. This is the promise of XtreeE, which is co-financing research with the CNRS and the Ecole des Ponts Paris Tech to develop a long-fiber concrete printing process. The latter demonstrated a tensile strength similar to reinforced concrete – of which it is intended to be an alternative – in tests. The objective is now to develop an industrial prototype by 2024.
The making of Breton bowls back… in Brittany
Towards truly Breton bowls. Les Faïenceries de Cornouaille – a company newly created by Xavier Dutertre and his partner Catherine Nourgoullous – will start its production of Breton breakfast bowls next November, in a workshop with a covered surface area of 1,900 m² located in Saint- Evarzec, near the town of Quimper (Finistère). The investment announced by the two managers is 2 million euros to produce 400,000 bowls per year. Two ear-shaped handles, traditional motifs and a first name: the two entrepreneurs had until now had these characteristic objects manufactured in Portugal, Eastern Europe or China.
