Peter Sagan won the third stage of the Tour de Suisse in a sprint. The Slovak was ahead of Bryan Coquard and Alexander Kristoff. Stephen Williams retains the leader’s jersey.
The third stage of this Tour de Suisse is announced for the sprinters but it is far from flat. With several climbs on the program, the fast men will however have to hang on.
Six men quickly take the lead. We find in particular Philippe Gilbert in the lead group as well as Stefan Bissegger et Quinn Simmons.
The group of six turns into a group of four after the accelerations of Bissegger then Simmons 40km from the finish. The two men are then joined by Gilbert and Rosskopf.
After the summit of Vauffelin, Bissegger once again tries to set off alone and this time lets go of his breakaway companions who are caught 22km from the finish while the Swiss still has a 50-second lead over the peloton.
Despite a good effort, Bissegger was caught 12km from the finish. 4km from the finish, a fall occurs and causes in particular Maximilian Schachmann on the ground.
The stage will be played in a sprint and it’s Peter Sagan which turns out to be the toughest. The Slovak wins ahead Bryan Coquard et Alexander Kristoff. It is Sagan’s 18th victory in the Tour de Suisse and the first time he has lifted his arms since June 20 and the Slovakian championship. He then won the general classification of the Tour of Slovakia but without winning a single stage.
