Trading volume across the entire market of broad-based exchange-traded funds surged past 1,800 billion yuan as 387 funds recorded heavy turnover, according to Wind data cited by Sohu.
Total turnover for the asset class hit 1,839.55 billion yuan, marking an increase of 544.36 billion yuan or 42.03% compared to the prior trading session. The single-day figure reached 2.31 times the daily average of 797.10 billion yuan recorded over the preceding 30 trading sessions from September 14 to November 2.
Portfolio Adjustments Drive Turnover Past 1,800 Billion Yuan
Market participants saw heavy concentration in specific index trackers during the session. A total of six broad-based exchange-traded funds crossed the 10-billion-yuan threshold in daily transactions.
Products tracking the science and technology sectors led the activity. The Sci-Tech Innovation 50 ETF (China Asset Management) recorded 224.56 billion yuan in turnover, while the ChiNext ETF (E Fund Management) reached 195.11 billion yuan. The CSI 300 ETF (Huatai-PineBridge Fund Management) saw 190.07 billion yuan in transactions.
Activity also picked up significantly in large-cap and mid-cap products. The SSE 50 ETF (China Asset Management) reached 129.05亿元 in turnover, marking an increase of 397% over the previous session’s 25.96 billion yuan. Meanwhile, the CSI 1000 ETF (Southern Asset Management) and the CSI 500 ETF (Southern Asset Management) recorded 124.54 billion yuan and 108.16 billion yuan respectively.
Secondary Market Activity Diverges From Net Inflows
The surge in trading reflects broader participation in index-linked instruments amid fluctuating market conditions. Yang Delong, chief economist at Qianhai Open Market Fund, noted that these vehicles allow investors to diversify portfolios and adjust equity weightings across different market capitalizations and industry structures.
The transaction volume growth mainly reflects secondary market trading activity and does not directly represent new capital inflows.
This heavy daily turnover follows a period of sustained asset accumulation. During October, the entire market of broad-based exchange-traded funds recorded a cumulative net inflow of 3742.35 billion yuan, according to Wind figures.
Total assets under management for broad-based exchange-traded funds stood at approximately 1.33 trillion yuan. Within that total, the CSI 300 ETF (Huatai-PineBridge Fund Management) held 1694.48 billion yuan in assets. The Sci-Tech Innovation 50 ETF (China Asset Management) and the ChiNext ETF (E Fund Management) held 1209.31 billion yuan and 969.34 billion yuan respectively.
Fund Managers Track Allocation Trends Across Indices
Zeng Fangfang, a product operations specialist at Shenzhen PaiPaiWang Fund Sales, pointed out that active secondary market trading coexists with periodic net inflows.
Capital demand across different broad-based indices shifts in response to valuations, industry performance cycles, and investor risk appetite.
