Starting Thursday, October 8, 2026, motorists in the Giza governorate will encounter new traffic patterns. The Giza Governorate has announced a full, trial closure of the 26th of July Axis in the direction leading toward the 15th of May Bridge. This measure is being taken to facilitate the construction of the Wadi El-Nil monorail station, a key component of the larger “Wadi El-Nil – 6 October” monorail project.
The Five-Day Trial Period for Traffic Flow
Authorities have implemented a strategic approach to this infrastructure project to minimize gridlock. The initial closure is strictly experimental. Beginning at 12:05 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and continuing until the morning of Monday, October 12, 2026, the section will be closed without any actual construction work taking place. This five-day trial is intended to test the impact of the closure on traffic volume and ensure the flow remains orderly and fluid before the major works begin.
Transition to Six-Month Construction Phase
Following the conclusion of the trial period on the morning of Monday, October 12, 2026, the closure will transition into a permanent, six-month phase. During this time, the construction of the Wadi El-Nil monorail station will proceed in earnest. These measures are designed to maintain order and security for commuters throughout the duration of the project. Once the active construction phase commences on October 12, the closure will be enforced daily to allow work to continue until the project is completed.

Designated Alternative Routes for Commuters
To mitigate the impact of the closure on the West Arch of the Ring Road and the 26th of July Axis, officials have established two primary alternative paths for those traveling toward the 15th of May Bridge.
- The Sudan Street Path: Motorists should take the exit from the 26th of July Axis toward Sudan Street. From there, continue until the intersection with Arab League Street, then turn left to proceed toward the 15th of May Bridge.
- The Lebanon Square Path: Motorists should take the exit leading to Lebanon Square, enter Lebanon Street, and turn left onto Shehab Street. From there, turn left again toward the Wadi El-Nil tunnel surface, which connects back to the 26th of July street heading toward the 15th of May Bridge, effectively bypassing the construction site.
Giza Traffic Services Manage Congestion with New Signage
The General Directorate of Traffic in Giza has committed to deploying traffic services and support staff around the clock to manage potential congestion. The governorate’s strategy emphasizes the use of clear, illuminated signage to prevent confusion during the transition. Drivers are encouraged to review these routes and plan their movements, particularly during peak commuting hours, to avoid delays as the city adapts to the new construction footprint.

The General Directorate of Traffic, in coordination with the construction company, has installed warning signs, illuminated markers, and light-based traffic guidance systems around the perimeter of the work zone to ensure public safety.
