Traffic jam on 80th Street: who is responsible for it not happening again? – Bogota

And impressive trancón was registered this Friday night in calle 80at the output of Bogota towards Sabana Oeste (Cundinamarca).

Two factors would have triggered the heavy traffic: the operation exodus -in which more than 320,000 vehicles are expected to leave through various roads in Bogotá- and the inaugural concert of the new entertainment stage: the Coliseo Live.

Such was the chaos to leave Bogotá and to enter the Coliseo Live that even the mayor of Bogotá spoke on the subject this Saturday:

With all my affection I ask @AlcaldiaCota and @SecMovilidad Cundinamarca to properly organize access, internal circulation and agile flow and parking to the new Live Coliseum in Cota and that exit in general. The collapse that they caused yesterday (Friday) on Calle 80 from 5 pm is unsustainable (…) Yesterday the opening of the Coliseum for more than 22,000 people without adequate design and organization, and the departure of the festive bridge contributed to the collapse of the traffic on 80th street. The joint work with @SectorMovilidad Bogotá has always allowed us to overcome these challenges,” tweeted the president.

Later, within the framework of a Summer Festival event, Claudia López referred to the subject again: “I spoke this morning with the businessman of the new Cota Live Coliseum. We love that entrepreneurs who make investments come, but that they do not collapse the city. I asked him the favor that with the Secretary of Mobility of Bogotá and Cundinamarca they organize logistics well. They can’t use 80th Street as the entrance road to their parking lot, they have to do that inside their property. They apologized to us, that they are going to adjust and we hope that tonight will turn out much better.”

The alarming thing is that the solution would be needed for this very Saturday, since not only is the departure of more vehicles expected in the middle of the exodus operation, but also another concert is scheduled at the Coliseo Live. This is the presentation of the Mexican artist Christian Nodal.

According to information from Coliseo Live, the doors will open at 5 pm and the first artist will leave at 7 pm; then, at 9:30 pm, will be presented Yeison Jimenezand, finally, at 11:30 pm, Christian Nodal will come out.

One of the criticisms from mobility experts is that this scenario, located in Cota, 1.5 kilometers from the Guadua Bridge, does not have arrival options by mass public transportso attendees must opt for individual transportation.

Some attendees of the concert on Friday, given by the artist Marc Anthony, assure that there were failures in logistics.

“At @MarcAnthony’s concert at @ColiseoLive, very bad roads to get to and from, parking lot with only one exit“, tweeted Manolito Salazar, journalist and one of the attendees.

What will happen now?

Spokesmen for some authorities have already referred to the issue. This is the case of the director (e) of the ANI, Carlos García, who assured this Saturday: “the concession corridors that arrive in Bogotá have a particularity: they have to coexist with land use matters with the POTs of each municipality (… .). We are going to work with the Bogotá mayor’s office with the aim of identifying now that this entertainment center is inaugurated, what would be the ways to avoid this type of situation.”

For his part, the deputy director of Transit and Transportation of the National Police, Colonel Julián Augusto Zapata Corrales, assured that although this Friday “coordination with mobility was carried out, we need to increase the foot of force to handle this traffic.”

Likewise, the Mobility Secretariat of Cundinamarca responded to the trill of the mayor Claudia López: “From @CundinamarcaGob A meeting has been coordinated this afternoon #13August in the company of the @TransitoPolicia and @SectorMovilidad in the company of @ColiseoLive to coordinate actions to mitigate mobility problems. We share the concern in the affectation that is being generated in #mobility in the Guadua – Villeta bridge section, (road in charge of the nation) that is why we have asked the ANI and the concession work tables to take action “.

In the next few hours, announcements of measures would be known.

At the moment, on the part of the Live Colosseum, it is known that there is an alternative to not go by private car: access a bus service provided by the organizers.

One of the routes departs from the Maloka parking lot from 4 pm to 9 pm and returns from the Coliseum to Maloka on various frequencies starting one hour before the end of the event.

Another of the routes leaves from the Carulla Alhambra parking lot (in Calle 114 A with Carrera 45) from 4 pm to 9 pm and returns from the Coliseo to Carulla in various frequencies from one hour before the end of the event.

The service costs 30,000 pesos round trip (there are 1,000 tickets available) or 20,000 pesos only return (there are 700 tickets available).
