“This morning at dawn, a fire broke out in a building that is part of an establishment welcoming people with frailties and disabilities,” wrote the mayor of Parma Michele Guerra on his Facebook page. “Eleven people were hospitalized and one of them, unfortunately, lost his life,” he added. “We are doing everything we can to help those in need, while waiting to understand what investigators will discover regarding the nature of the fire and its causes,” concluded the mayor.

According to the Italian media, the fire started from a room on the ground floor of this establishment and the smoke invaded the rest of the building.
