At least nine people died in the wake of collapse of a warehouse in the Brazilian city of São Paulo in which there was a campaign rally for the presidential elections in Brazil on October 2. In addition, 31 injuries were reported, a number that could increase with the passing of the hours.
The collapsed place functions normally as container depot in the municipality of Itapecerica da Serra. The tragedy took place when a mezzanine collapsed.
The spokeswoman for the local Fire Department, Luciana Soares, specified that 64 workers were gathered on the mezzanine floor of the container company for foreign trade Multiteiner.
Mon Soares, the structure gave way under the weight, since the space was full of people. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found the dead and injured as a result of the collapse.
Among those who emerged unharmed from the tragedy are deputy Jonas Donizette and the candidate for federal deputy Ely Santos, from the Solidarity Party. “There are no words to describe the feeling right now. A mixture of gratitude for my life and that of all those who were rescued alive and deep sadness for the fatal victims,” Donizette said on her Instagram account.
Santos, for his part, published: “Ely and Jones and too many survivors have been born again! God of liberation. Our sincere condolences to the families of all the fatal victims of this disaster.”
