Tragedy on the shores of Lake Baikal.
The Russian freestyle wrestling school is known throughout the world, so talents appear with enviable frequency. Serious bets were made on the two-time European champion among juniors Yuri Vlasko, and the head coach of the national team predicted a great future for him. But an ordinary walk on the shore of Lake Baikal turned out to be fatal for the athlete.

Great start
The traditions of wrestling in some parts of Russia are very strong. For certain regions, this sport is the main one. So, for example, things are in Buryatia.
Yuri Vlasko was born in the Irkutsk region, but became a local celebrity in the neighboring region. By the age of 18, he managed to win the European Junior Freestyle Wrestling Championship twice and many more tournaments in Russia, Iran and Turkey.
Our hero, of course, dreamed of the gold of the Olympics. Moreover, in the weight category up to 96 kg, Russia has always had very good statistics at the Games.
fatal excursion
In the summer of 2017, Vlasko, who was then already 20 years old, came home to Ulan-Ude for the next tournament. Naturally, the young wrestler was in the status of a favorite. As a result, Yuri fully lived up to expectations by taking gold. And after the competition, the athlete invited his comrades to see Lake Baikal. However, instead of a relaxing holiday, Vlasko and his friends found themselves in the midst of a conflict with local bandits.
The athletes settled in a camp site near Goryachinsk, went to a disco in the evening and returned to their rooms. Early in the morning, Vlasko went to the beach, where the tragedy occurred.
– The wrestlers stopped in the resort area near Goryachinsk. A camp site on the very shore of Lake Baikal: you go out – and immediately the beach. Here, on the beach, Yuri Vlasko was killed. It was a real fight without rules. First, Yura was stabbed in the neck, then several times with a piece of rebar on the back and head. And what is happening cannot be called a battle: an ordinary murder is senseless and merciless, – the TVC channel reported in its report.
A few days after the tragedy, an unknown witness published a video in which a dozen people beat one Yury. No one interferes, everything happens very quickly. When the rest of the wrestlers ran out to the noise, it was no longer possible to help Vlasko: several stab wounds in the neck became a death sentence for the champion.
During the investigation, it turned out that one of Yura’s friends quarreled with another vacationer at the disco in the evening because of the girl. Young people “scored the arrow” on the beach, and Vlasko simply came to the aid of a friend.
But the forces were unequal: unexpectedly, several unknown people arrived in cars and staged a massacre, which even law enforcement agencies did not interfere with.
Nobody helped
According to local residents, everyone was afraid to intervene, because the fight was started by a well-known bandit group in the area. Surprisingly, even the Coast Guard and the police could not contain the conflict.
There were two policemen standing there and they saw everything. Although in such situations they usually immediately come up and ask what the matter is, they demand documents … The guys asked them to call an ambulance – no reaction. And then they calmly left. They said, “Don’t tell anyone that you saw us.” It is necessary that they be found and their shoulder straps torn off! – noted the honored coach of Russia Valery Ivanov, whose words are quoted by infpol.ru.
The suspects were detained a week later, but they tried to justify themselves by simply defending themselves. However, judging by the testimonies of witnesses, there was no smell of self-defense there.
– A terrible tragedy. Yura is the soul of the company, completely devoid of any kind of aggression. The boy was amazing! Vlasko had colossal prospects, we pinned serious hopes on him. Wrestling was a huge part of his life, – then the president of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Three years later, the court convicted the three murderers of Vlasko.
– By a court decision, one of the murderers, Yuri Vlasko, was sentenced to 17 years in prison. The second attacker was sentenced to 16.5 years. The third participant in the fight received 12 years, the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Investigative Committee for Buryatia reported.
