How informs IGNall work on Star Wars: The Old Republic will move from BioWare to a third party studio Broadsword Online Games.

It is reported that Broadsword and EA have already signed a corresponding agreement, and the transaction will be completed this month.

Now the core development team of The Old Republic employs 70-80 people. More than half of them are expected to move to Broadsword. Those who stay at EA will have the opportunity to find other work within the company – otherwise they may face layoffs.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will receive scheduled content updates like the upcoming 7.3 patch and the next PvP season, as well as other updates in the future. EA will remain the publisher of the game, while BioWare will focus on single-player games such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

IGN contacted EA and received confirmation that negotiations with Broadsword are indeed ongoing. Incidentally, Broadsword is run by a former BioWare vice president and co-founder Mythic Entertainment Rob Denton, who has worked on The Old Republic in the past.
