A four-year-old boy died following an accident on Saturday in Ostend, the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, Bruges division, reported on Tuesday. The victim allegedly lost control of an electric quad.

A German family was on vacation in Ostend when the parents decided to rent a small electric quad bike for their four-year-old son. The child was driving the quad on the dike, but did not control the vehicle. The father therefore wanted to intervene, but tripped and found himself on top of his child.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to administer first aid to the little boy. He was transferred to hospital and eventually succumbed to his injuries.
