This Sunday morning, firefighters were busy putting out a serious fire in Piéton (Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont). The mayor confirms that a person has died and that it is CPAS accommodation, located on rue Arille Laurent.
The president of the CPAS of Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont, Domenico Deligio, arrived on site this morning. : “Around 5 a.m., I was informed that a building had broken out in one of the CPAS’s two emergency accommodations.“, he confirms. “The investigating judge is on site, I don’t know any more at the moment“.
According to our information, the deceased jumped out of the window after apparently setting fire to his apartment. This remains to be confirmed
Other residents of the burning building were evacuated by neighbors using a ladder.
The investigating judge came to confirm the death, but also to note the stability of the building, which would be in danger. A forensic doctor also arrived.
The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office should communicate during the day.
