Tragic Plane Crash in Brazilian Amazon: 14 Killed, Investigation Underway

14 people were killed when a small plane crashed in the Brazilian Amazon region on Saturday (local time). Twelve passengers and two crew members were killed in the accident near the town of Barcelos on Saturday, the governor of the state of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, wrote on the X network, formerly known as Twitter.

According to a report by the G1 news portal, the victims were Brazilian sport fishermen who wanted to fish on the Rio Negro River. The media had previously reported that the passengers were tourists, including those from the USA.

The Embraer EMB 110 aircraft took off from the Amazon metropolis of Manaus and, according to the aviation authority, was in good condition. It crashed around 400 kilometers from Manaus. The cause of the crash was initially unclear. According to the civil defense, it was raining heavily at the time of the accident. Manaus Aerotaxi airline confirmed in a statement that an accident had occurred and an investigation was underway, but did not provide details of any deaths or injuries.
