Tragic Stories from Gaza: The Impact of War on Innocent Children

One of them is the twelve-year-old girl Dounia. A few weeks ago she spoke to “Defense for Children International” regarding the war in Israel. She said in a conversation recorded during the ceasefire at the end of November: “I just want the war to end.”

She also expressed the hope that she would find protection abroad. She also wanted an urgently needed prosthetic leg. When she grows up, she wants to become a doctor so that she can help other children.

But the dreams were shattered, as “Defense for Children International” now reports. Dounia was killed by a tank shell during an attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. She had previously lost her parents and siblings in an air raid.

Many Palestinians seek protection from Israeli attacks in Nasser Hospital. Israel itself states that Hamas terrorists are also deliberately hiding behind civilians.

Recently it has been repeatedly reported that the hospital is overwhelmed. Director Nahe Abu Taima told the BBC in early December: “We have lost control. Hundreds of injured and martyred (dead) people arrive in the emergency room.”

The city of Khan Yunis is currently one of the most contested areas in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli information, it is a Hamas stronghold. Other hospitals in the Gaza Strip are also repeatedly targeted by Israel.
