A terrible work accident occurred on Monday on the construction site of the new Hoedhaar fire station in Lokeren. A 28-year-old man, Tibo, lost his life following being struck by a steel support structure.
His family is devastated: “Tibo has always been 100 percent compliant, including always wearing a helmet and harness with a belt. But when the gondola started to oscillate, we don’t yet know why, his helmet flew off and he hit his head on these beams. Tibo was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, so to speak,” his dad tells Het Laatste Nieuws.

“It’s little consolation, but he certainly wouldn’t have felt anything.” Tibo died instantly,” he added.
An investigation has been launched and will determine the exact circumstances of the accident. The latter took place as the project entered its final phase, which is scheduled to end in early 2024.
