[이코노미스트 정두용 기자] A massive deposit error occurred in the post office financial computer system of the Postal Service Headquarters. Deposit errors appeared in the accounts of about 1,700 institutions.

According to the financial industry on the 25th, an automatic transfer error recently occurred in the Post Office Financial Money Management Service (CMS) system. The problem appeared in the direct debit case set to the 15th. Since the 15th of this month was a Saturday, the automatic transfer was processed on the 17th, and in the process, an accident occurred in which the automatic transfer was processed even if the balance was insufficient in the accounts of about 1,700 institutions. An error was shown in which money was withdrawn from the postal CMS integrated management account, which collects withdrawal funds for each customer, and was deposited.

The direct debit error became known as institutions that chose direct remittance realized that they were double-transferred in case the direct debit could not be made due to insufficient balance.

The postal financial computer system is operated by Korea Post, an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Science and ICT. The Korea Post took follow-up measures, such as sending an official letter to the associations of each financial sector asking them to “return the amount of the mistaken deposit.”

The post office’s financial system also failed in May. As soon as the Korea Post introduced the next-generation financial system, network failure occurred in electronic financial transactions such as Internet and mobile banking for 78 hours. On the 10th, there was an error in which account transfers and deposits and withdrawals did not go smoothly for about 30 minutes from around 9:00 pm.
