Austria has issued a travel warning for the parts of Israel bordering the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria. We expressly warn against all trips to the affected areas. Austrians in Israel are strongly advised to follow the instructions of the Israeli authorities, follow the news and report to the embassy in Tel Aviv or register for travel with the Foreign Ministry, according to the ministry.
“In view of the further deterioration of the situation in Israel, the Foreign Ministry has increased the security level for Israel from 4 “high security risk” to 5 “partial travel warning” for the areas around the Gaza Strip and along Israel’s borders with Lebanon and Syria,” the said Ministry late Saturday evening. The areas had been evacuated by the Israeli authorities and were to be viewed as restricted military areas.
The Israeli military has announced a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip in response to a terrorist attack by Hamas from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory.
