Cystitis treated with water and cranberry juice

If you have a health problem, it is very important to go to a doctor. And for good reason, health professionals are best suited to treating an illness like cystitis. But sometimes, some people decide to self-diagnose.

Maisie Lewis, aged 20, tried to treat her cystitis on her own. The events took place in Cardiff, in the United Kingdom. The young woman did not consult a health professional to treat his urinary infection.

The professional hairdresser decided to drink water and cranberry juice. This is a berry that is known for its benefits for the body. It helps prevent the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria on the bladder wall.

On the other hand, this cocktail has changed absolutely nothing. The cystitis was still present and Maisie Lewis saw things get worse over time. She began to feel terrible pain.

Symptoms that get worse

As the days passed, Maisie Lewis began to feel even more horrible pain in the lower back. And as soon as she was going to urinate. One thing is certain, she felt the worst.

She actually waited until she wasn’t feeling well before going to see a doctor. The latter then told the young woman that she had to take antibiotics for two weeks to overcome this infection.

On the other hand, things continued to get worse for Maisie Lewis. Despite the antibiotics, she did not feel better. Her cystitis was still present and the young woman was still suffering.

The hairdresser’s health also continued to deteriorate. She experienced dizziness, hot flashes and chills, tremors but also hallucinations.

Maisie Lewis had to go to hospital urgently. Doctors then discovered that she had developed sepsis because of her cystitis. Because of this infection, the young woman risked amputation of certain limbs and even death.

“Things can get serious”

Out of the woods, the young woman told the Mirror about her cystitis: “If I had known how sick you could get simply by ignoring a urinary infection, I would never have done it.”

Before adding: “People need to know how bad things can get. My body has endured so much in such a short time.” But that’s not all. She indulged on the cranberry juice.

Maisie Lewis said: “All I ever knew was, drink a little cranberry juice and you’ll be fine. It is not so simple. It must be taught in sex education classes. And not only “.

She then stated: “the doctors need to be more vigilant. It’s not enough to send people home and tell them to drink more water. Don’t just treat [la cystite] as if she was going to pass alone. This will not be the case “.
