The IFAB has decided to approve the trial of Arsene Wenger’s unprecedented idea regarding the offside rule!
We remind you that the legendary coach of Arsenal – and in recent years FIFA’s responsible for development in world football – has suggested a few months ago the adjustment of the regulation, so that the attacker is considered to be in an offside position only if his whole body is in front of the penultimate defender or the ball.
This is a change that helps the team’s attackers and puts the defenders in a more difficult position, as it “loses” inches that can prove to be catalytic in the limiting phases.
The idea will be put to the test in football academy league matches. That there will be tests does not of course mean that the change will be adopted and become an official regulation of football.
It should be noted that in its latest update, IFAB emphasizes that the test of the new offside was done in games of the U18 category in Italy, adding that the tests will continue.
