The murder of three doctors shocks the top of the state
The three men, including the brother of a deputy, were shot dead on the terrace of a café in Rio de Janeiro on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The Brazilian Minister of Justice is following the investigation.

Three Brazilian doctors, including the brother of a left-wing MP, were shot dead in the night from Wednesday to Thursday in a bar in Rio de Janeiro. A fourth doctor who was also in the bar was injured and taken to hospital.
The four men were in Rio to participate in an international orthopedic medicine congress, according to local press. The bar is on the beach promenade in the affluent Barra da Tijuca neighborhood. “An expertise was carried out, witnesses were interviewed and images from surveillance cameras are being analyzed,” the police said, without giving any information on the motivations for the triple murder.
A video from surveillance cameras broadcast by several Brazilian channels shows that the doctors, seated at a bar table, were surprised by the arrival of men dressed in black who shot them just after getting out of a car white.
Brother of a left-wing MP
One of the victims, Diego Ralf Bomfim, 35, was the brother of the federal deputy of São Paulo Samia Bomfim, of the left-wing Socialism and Freedom party (PSOL), companion of Glauber Braga, another deputy of this political group, elected in Rio de Janeiro.
“Faced with the hypothesis of a link with parliamentarians at the national level, I ordered the Federal Police to follow the investigation into the execution of doctors in Rio,” declared the Minister of Justice and Public security, Flavio Dino on X (ex-Twitter).
On the same social network, left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his “great sadness” and his “indignation”, while expressing his solidarity with the parliamentarians close to one of the doctors, as well as the families other victims.
Five years after the murder of Marielle Franco
The PSOL demanded a “rigorous and effective” investigation to identify those responsible. Black activist and Rio city councilor Marielle Franco, assassinated in March 2018, was a member of this party. Five years later, investigators have still not identified the sponsors of this crime, which shocked beyond Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s tourist hotspot, is in the grip of a wave of violence. On Monday, the federal government announced the sending of 300 agents and 50 vehicles from the National Force, which depends on the Ministry of Justice, to reinforce the local police.
