Tripunithura Firecracker Explosion: Nine Arrested for Illegal Firecracker Use

Tripunithura: Nine persons, including the president of Puthikav Thekumbhag NSS Karayogam, who went on the run following the Churakad firecracker explosion that killed two people, have been arrested. The case is for setting off firecrackers without permission.

Thekumbhaga Karayogam President Udayamperur Puthanpurail Anil Kumar (64), Secretary Mekara Chaliyath Santhosh (50), Treasurer Thekumbhaga Revathiil Krishnankutty (70), members Churakad Lakshmiil Sunil Kumar (46), Thekumbhaga Kallat Arunkumar (41), Mekara Nelluvelil Balachandran (60), Mekara Chaliyath Achu (22), Udayamperur Kochuparampil Anpunath (25) and Mekara Jijith (39), who are not officials, were arrested.

Hilpalas police caught them on Wednesday night while they were absconding in Munnar’s Chinnakanal.

The blast happened on Monday morning.

Last night police raided the offices of the two congregants and the houses of the office bearers of the Maradu Kottaram temple, where the Thalapoli festival is to be held this week, but nothing was found.
