The Hesbignon firefighters were called to intervene, Thursday shortly before 4:00 a.m., in Lincent, on the access ramp to the E40 motorway towards Brussels.

The driver of a truck transporting some 200 pigs lost control of his vehicle for some unknown reason and it overturned. The ramp towards the capital was immediately closed to traffic.

Many animals were injured and others killed during the swerve. It was finally decided to euthanize all the livestock considered unfit for human consumption.

The operations to evacuate the carcasses of the pigs were still in progress Thursday shortly following 5:00 p.m.
