Truck Drivers Protest Unpaid Wages During Majalengka Roof Tile Shipment

“Apakah para sopir sudah siap berangkat?” tanya Maruarar Sirait.

The delivery of 2,4 juta genteng from Majalengka, West Java, stalled briefly on Sunday, November 8, 2026, when truck drivers crossed their arms and refused to depart over unpaid wages, detikcom reported.

Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait posed the question during the official launch event at the Jatiwangi production center. Instead of affirming readiness, the gathered drivers raised crossed arms to signal a collective halt.

“Belum dibayar!” the drivers shouted in unison.

Drivers explained that they had been waiting at the site since Friday without receiving their promised compensation. Haulage rates range between Rp 200,000 and Rp 300,000 per individual worker, while lump-sum payments per truck span from Rp 2 juta to Rp 3 juta, depending on the destination. Workers also stated they were supposed to receive meals, t-shirts, and cash allowances before rolling out.

Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman and West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman arrived at the crowd to address the grievances. Officials began documenting the affected drivers and assistants to sort out the logistics handled through local cooperatives.

Herman Suryatman stated that regional authorities needed to check the mechanics of the cooperative payments. “Ini kan sudah siap berangkat, ada beberapa dari koperasi yang koreksi harga atau apa gitu. Tapi saya mau cek. Ini kan yang koordinir koperasi, pembiayaannya udah di koperasi,” he said, according to detikcom.

Regent Eman Suherman offered reassurance to the workers on site. “Saya sangat memahami suasana hati teman-teman sekalian. Tapi yang harus dipahami saya akan menyelesaikan semuanya,” he said, as reported by detikcom.

Minister Maruarar Sirait directed officials to enforce a strict departure policy until every driver received their funds. “Yang sudah dibayar, jalan. Yang belum dibayar tinggal (tetap di lokasi). Yang masih kurang, tinggal juga,” the minister stated.

Authorities processed the documentation for the unpaid workers throughout the afternoon. By 5:09 p.m., trucks carrying verified payments began departing the Majalengka center.

The shipments target housing needs across multiple provinces. The distribution plan allocates 500 trucks to West Java, 60 to Banten, 10 to Jakarta, and 10 to East Java, serving locations such as Karawang and Sumedang.

Out of the total fleet, 440 trucks carry materials for home renovation initiatives, while 56 trucks supply subsidized housing projects. Each vehicle transports between 4,000 and 5,000 SNI-certified roof tiles produced by 34 local business units in Majalengka.
