Truck Obstruction on A4 Motorway in France: Gendarmes’ Ingenious Solution to Clear the Way

This is a photo taken by a driver who was traveling on the A4 between Reims and Châlons-en-Champagne, in France, Friday afternoon May 26. He then posted it on Facebook to share his anger and misunderstanding. “U-turn on the motorway in Reims. Amazing. Can’t wait for retirement, I can’t take the road anymore, ” gets angry the trucker.

On the photo, don’t we see a heavy goods vehicle parked on the emergency lane in the opposite direction? Fortunately, there is no more danger, the gendarmes arrived and put their vehicle in protection in front of the truck, as written by L’Union.

The scene as it is photographed suggests that the driver was intercepted before he caused a tragedy by driving in the wrong direction of traffic. From where? How many kilometers ? Did he make a U-turn? Was he mistaken on an access ramp? Had he drunk too much?

No, none of that! The driver was traveling in the right direction when the cargo lines let go. Unbalanced, the truck ended up in a wallet, across the road. No time to quibble: the only solution the driver had to clear the way as quickly as possible was to pull into the emergency lane in the opposite direction.

How do I get the truck out of there?

This obstruction of the motorway could have ended very badly, so the gendarmes took out the ticket book: 68 euros fine for the poor securing of the cargo. But before settling the reason for the annoyance, how to get the sideboard out of this uncomfortable position without cutting the A4? By allowing it to roll in the opposite direction!

The incident only happened 200 meters after the Reims-Champagne area. The gendarmes’ tactic therefore consisted of securing the slow lane to allow the driver to go up the emergency lane to the infrastructure platform, where he was able to turn around and get back on the right tracks.
