True Detective actor recounts Watergate in HBO series

One of the greatest scandals to have hit the United States is adapted into a series, revealing the beginnings of the fall of President Nixon.

In 1974, the Watergate scandal hit the American presidency hard. brought to light by the Washington Post while the White House was doing its utmost to cover up the affair, it would lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon, no less. Without the meticulous investigation of the two journalists of the daily, the governance of Nixon could have condemned the alleged perpetrators of a pseudo burglary, intended to install listening devices. This is also why in 1976, the film The President’s Men, with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as the two investigators, was a great success, documenting the facts. More recently, another series, Gaslithad also explored the case.

Nixon’s Plumbers

The main interest of this miniseries, which will start in March 2023 on HBO, is that it focuses on the two main shadowy protagonists, E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux ). White House Plumbers will therefore detail this spy mission through the prism of these two men determined to help their party, but who will gradually accumulate blunders. Above all, their loyalty will be gradually cracked by the prison sentences incurred and the lack of support from their sponsors. To take an interest in their destiny, from simple executors convinced of being able to carry out their mission, to men crushed by the media machine, promises to be fascinating.

Another angle of view

Woody Harrelson has proven himself in dramatic roles, notably on HBO with the first season of True Detectivedont season 4 with Jodie Foster will arrive in 2023. Justin Theroux is an acclaimed screenwriter, director, producer and actor. In the cinema, we could see it in the unforgettable Mulholhand Drive by David Lynch and on television more recently in the series The Leftovers. The duo should, with their talent, play perfect turkeys of farce, both actors in the biggest scandal of all time, and paradoxically often forgotten in this unprecedented affair, which will even consecrate the name “gate” from when we talk about a state scandal later.
