President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Iowa this weekend is back on as an in-person event, reversing a brief decision by party organizers to replace the stop with a tele-rally. The Republican National Committee updated media outlets on Friday afternoon that the event will proceed in Dubuque at the original Five Flags Event Center location, with doors opening at 10:30 a.m., the event beginning at 12:30 p.m., and Trump scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to KCRG.
The sudden shift comes after the Republican National Committee announced Thursday night that in-person rallies in Dubuque and Kansas were being scrapped in favor of telerallies across 20 states to reach more voters. However, party officials quickly recalibrated, restoring the physical appearance in Iowa alongside a scheduled stop in Kansas at the Salina Regional Airport, where Trump is set to speak at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Guests planning to attend the Dubuque gathering must RSVP in advance.
Before the Republican National Committee’s formal confirmation on Friday afternoon, local confusion marked the morning hours. Multiple sources told KCRG-TV9 earlier on Friday that the rescheduled Sunday rally would instead shift to Cedar Rapids, while the city of Dubuque and local police indicated they had received no official notice that the event was back on their calendar. Ultimately, the RNC clarified that the rally remains anchored at its original Five Flags Event Center venue.
Midwestern Campaign Schedule and Prior Iowa Stops
The weekend swing highlights a busy stretch of campaigning in critical Midwestern states. The restoration of the physical rallies marks a return to traditional campaign events after the brief pivot to telerallies.
Trump’s return to Iowa continues a series of major campaign visits to the state since his election in 2016. Prior major rallies across the state include:
- December 8, 2016, in Des Moines
- June 21, 2017, in Cedar Rapids
- October 9, 2018, in Council Bluffs
- January 30, 2020, in Des Moines
- October 14, 2020, in Des Moines
- November 1, 2020, in Dubuque
- October 9, 2021, in Des Moines
- November 3, 2022, in Sioux City
- July 3, 2025, in Des Moines
- January 27, 2026, in Clive

Sunday Event Logistics and Final Preparations
With the schedule finalized, local authorities and campaign organizers are preparing for Sunday’s events. Attendees in Dubuque must complete an RSVP to gain entry to the Five Flags Event Center, where security and seating arrangements are being coordinated following the rapid turnaround from Thursday night’s cancellation announcement.

Following the Dubuque event, the campaign schedule moves to Kansas for the evening address at the Salina Regional Airport.
