Stefanos Tsitsipas put in a great performance to beat world No2 Yannick Siner 2-1 sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), with the top Greek tennis player advancing to the Monte Carlo final and claiming the his first title for 2024.
Stefanos Tsitsipas started the match excellently and found a break point in the first service game of Shiner, but the Italian erased it and made it 1-0. The Greek tennis player then easily equalized and then found a new double break point, which he did not let this time go to waste.
Tsitsipas “broke” his opponent’s serve and this break was enough to give him the first set. The world number 12 then easily reached 6-4 and made it 1-0 in the sets of the match.
In the second set, it was Shiner’s turn to break ahead. The Italian took the lead from the start, making it 3-0, but Tsitsipas had a break point at 4-2. Shiner “turned it off” and the “battle” continued, with Stefanos finding four more break points in the 9th game, but not being able to level the set. The Italian thus reached 6-3 and tied the match at 1-1.
The third and final set did not start well for Tsitsipas, as Shiner managed to “break” his serve and make it 0-1 in games. An evolution that did not deter “Steph” as he gradually and increasing his performance managed to take the victory.
The Greek tennis player broke Sinner in the eighth game, with him making the most of his opponent’s troubles.
Somehow, Tsitsipas managed to make a second break against his opponent, closing the set with 6-4 and taking the victory.
Now the 25-year-old athlete is waiting for the winner from the pair of Novak Djokovic and Casper Rudd to find out which of the two he will face in the Monte Carlo final.
