ÖVP State Secretary Florian Tursky turns orange. The designated mayoral candidate of the new civic alliance made up of the ÖVP, For Innsbruck (FI) and the Senior Citizens’ Association for the Innsbruck municipal council election next April is running with the same color and the list name “the New Innsbruck”. Tursky explained this on Friday during a photo shoot in the state capital. The 35-year-old said again that they wanted to “become the strongest force and appoint the mayor.”

As previously announced, neither the name “ÖVP” nor those of the other two alliance partners will be found on the list name on the ballot paper. According to Tursky, this should also signal the political “new start” in Innsbruck: “We are the constructive civil force.” There is a need for a new “togetherness” in city politics.

The former office manager of former state governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) also presented himself at the photo session – according to the new list name – as the man from the outside who had nothing to do with the city’s political disputes of the past few years and was now promising a new beginning. “Innsbruck needs renewal. People have had enough of the chaos and standstill of the last few years. I stand for a new political style. And together we can achieve great things with this civil alliance,” he said. There is now a “historic opportunity for a real change in political style.” By the way, the ÖVP, FI and the Senior Citizens’ Association will officially launch their baby at a joint event on November 29th.

When asked whether he wanted to borrow the orange list color from ex-FPÖ leader Jörg Haider, who founded the BZÖ with the same color at the time, Tursky said: “In principle, I don’t borrow from him, especially not from Jörg Haider. ” Orange has a “good signaling effect” and the color is “fresh and modern.”

Things have recently gone haywire in the bourgeois camp and in the Innsbruck ÖVP. Last week, the previous ÖVP deputy mayor Johannes Anzengruber announced that he would run in the election with his own list. There had previously been severe turbulence between Anzengruber and the People’s Party. The party did not want the former alpine farmer as Willi’s challenger. According to his own statements, the arrival of the deputy city boss does not worry Tursky. The goal would have been to “walk the path together,” but Anzengruber unilaterally left this path, he noted briefly on Friday.

Next Friday there is another important appointment for the State Secretary: Although the Innsbruck ÖVP will be included in the new list in this election, it will not be “dissolved”. Tursky is therefore standing for election as city party chairman at a city party conference. The previous city party leader, state parliament member Christoph Appler, is no longer running and is making way for the new black hopeful. Turky did not want to set a percentage target for the chairman election. The aim is to emerge from the party conference stronger as an entire alliance.

At the end of September, the State Secretary announced that he would be entering the ring in Innsbruck. And definitely to stay in the state capital afterwards, regardless of the outcome of the election. This was associated with the announcement of “reunification” between the Innsbruck ÖVP and For Innsbruck. The civil “separation” lasted for almost 30 years. Innsbruck was founded in 1994 by the later city boss and ÖVP state governor Herwig van Staa. Now the two groups, which have been anything but on friendly terms with each other, want to strike together and end Willis’ term in office after just one term.
