Twelve-year-old from Dresden dies in a fall in the Alps

A German schoolgirl fell about 100 meters to her death in the French Alps near Grenoble. The twelve-year-old exchange student Dresden went on a snowshoe hike with her host parents and her French partner student on Sunday, the public prosecutor’s office in Grenoble announced on Monday.

Suddenly she slipped down a slope without an obstacle stopping her. Police officers planned to meet with the victim’s parents on Monday. The accident happened in the afternoon on a mountain range near Saint-Paul-de-Varces.

As reported by the broadcaster France Bleu, the student died of her injuries before the rescue workers arrived. An emergency doctor and mountain rescuers flew to the scene of the accident in a mountain rescue helicopter. The mountain police are leading the investigation into the course of the accident, the public prosecutor said.
