Twilight Princess HD to change

There are still a few first-party Wii U games that fans have been hoping to see for Switch, including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. So far this has not happened.

Tantalus – the team behind Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – originally worked on Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U release in 2016. However, according to CEO Tom Crago, the company has yet to ask the company to work on a Switch port.

In the last episode of Podcast Silicon FragmentsHere’s what Crago said when asked about The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for Switch and if Nintendo has gotten back to it:

“No, and look, of course we’d love to do that, but it wasn’t a priority for Nintendo — or at least not in the conversations they’ve had with us.

The way things work with our friends there is that we take every opportunity to work on one of their titles. There is a constant dialogue between our two companies. Often there is a bit of time between titles and other ideas might be thrown around, but in the case of Skyward Sword some time has passed and then the email comes: ‘Would you be interested in bringing Skyward Sword? switch?’ To which the answer, of course, is, “Yes, we would.” And then we get in touch with Nintendo about what that might look like and finally get started. So it was similar in many ways to how Twilight Princess (on Wii U) came to fruition.

Of course, Nintendo doesn’t necessarily need Tantalus to work on a Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. The company can always turn to another company or do the work itself.

Tantalus last teamed up with Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which was released in July 2021.
