Twitch spokesperson explains why the platform cut payouts to top streamers

Mike Minton, CEO of Twitch monetization, explained why the company decided to revise the payout percentage for popular streamers. According to him, in the long term, increased payments for large content makers are not practical.

Minton noted that providing services such as low-latency, high-quality broadcasts is costly for the company. It is known that large streamers do not reduce the load, but, on the contrary, increase it several times, and, accordingly, it is more expensive to provide such broadcasts. “The thing to understand here is that Amazon expects Twitch to be able to financially prosper as an independent, sustainable business,” he added.

Previously, Twitch paid affiliate streamers 70% of all earnings. The redistribution will remove this difference – all content makers will share income from Twitch 50 to 50. This is an innovation outraged community. The changes will not take effect immediately – top streamers will temporarily receive money under the old conditions until they earn $100,000.
