On March 16, local time, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear announced that he would be stepping down as CEO of the company, effective today. He will be replaced by Dan Clancy, who has been with Twitch for over three years.
Emmett Shear is one of the co-founders of Twitch’s predecessor, Justin.tv. Justin.tv was a user-generated live video content delivery platform. Three years after its launch, it turned into Twitch and was acquired by Amazon in 2014. He was then CEO of Twitch.
Emmett Shear will continue to work at Twitch as an advisor. No direct reason has been given for his resignation, but while he feels that Twitch is his child, at 16 he feels that Twitch has reached a stage where he wants to leave home and go on adventures. and expresses that he has made the decision to step down as CEO.
His successor, Dan Clancy, joined the company in 2019 as executive vice president of creator and community experience and currently serves as president of Twitch.
