Twitter under investigation: illegal rooms in the headquarters

Twitter is under investigation after some offices in its headquarters were allegedly illegally converted into bedrooms to encourage its employees to stay at work.

The city of San Francisco has received a complaint that since Monday, curtains and mattresses have been added to certain rooms in Twitter headquarters, reported the “San Francisco Chronicle”.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter and fired half of the platform’s 7,500 employees, several of them have publicly reported sleeping in the office to satisfy the workload.

Where the rub is that the company would not have asked for a permit to use its neighborhoods for residential purposes.

“We have to make sure that the buildings are used as intended. There are different construction requirements for residential buildings, including those used for short-term stays,” said Patrick Hannan, spokesman for the Department of Building Inspection.

For his part, the CEO criticized the investigation of the city of San Francisco on Twitter, inviting instead to focus on the fentanyl crisis which is hitting it hard.

“So the city of SF is attacking companies that provide beds for its tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from Fentanyl. Where are your priorities @LondonBreed!?” tweeted Elon Musk, attaching a story about a 10-month-old baby who overdosed after being exposed on a playground.
