Two people face charges over the death of 29-year-old Nathaniel Sturmey, who was found dead outside a Lower Hutt property on April 29. Police executed coordinated search warrants using the armed offenders squad, arresting a 25-year-old man for murder and a 46-year-old woman as an accessory after the fact.
The investigation into the death of Nathaniel Sturmey reached a critical juncture when police carried out several search warrants in the Moera and Stokes Valley areas. Officers executed the early morning operations with support from the armed offenders squad, months after Sturmey was discovered unresponsive on the ground outside a Malone Road address at approximately 8am on April 29.
Arrests Made in Lower Hutt and Court Appearances Scheduled
Authorities have formally charged a 25-year-old male with murder in connection with the homicide investigation. Additionally, a 46-year-old female faces a charge of accessory after the fact to murder, according to police reports detailing the pair’s arrests. Both suspects are scheduled to make their appearance in the Hutt Valley District Court.
The arrests follow an extensive public appeal launched last month, during which investigators urged residents to report any sightings of a black 2010 Nissan Qashqai and a grey 2007 Audi A4 seen near the scene around the time of the incident. Field Crime Manager at Wellington Police, Detective Inspector Jamie Woods, confirmed that investigators are not ruling out further legal actions as the inquiry proceeds.
Police Assurance and Ongoing Scene Examinations
As scene examinations near completion, residents across the wider Lower Hutt area can expect an ongoing police presence.

“We would like to reassure the community that there is not anticipated to be any risk to the public and police will be conducting reassurance patrols and maintaining visibility within the wider area.”
Detective Inspector Jamie Woods, Wellington Police
Police have also expressed gratitude to members of the public who stepped forward with information during the months-long inquiry. Investigators continue to urge anyone with relevant details regarding the case to contact authorities by calling 105 and referencing case number 260409/9927.
