At least two gendarmes and seven civilians were killed Tuesday in two attacks in the Center-North and the Sahel of Burkina Faso, announced the platform for monitoring terrorist attacks “Sahel Security”.

According to the platform, on Tuesday, a patrol of the National Gendarmerie of Burkina Faso was the target of an improvised explosive device attack in the locality of Ouanobe on the Kaya-Dori axis in the Center-North, killing two among the gendarmes.

On the same day, unidentified armed individuals attacked the village of Tassiri not far from the Essakane gold mine in the commune of Gorom-Gorom in the Sahel killing at least 7 civilians.

Local sources reached by telephone by Anadolu Agency confirmed these two attacks without providing a toll.

These attacks come the day after an explosive device attack against a supply convoy on the Djibo-Bourzanga axis in the Sahel on Monday, with a provisional toll of 35 dead and 37 wounded, all civilians, according to the Burkinabè government. .

Reacting to this attack on the supply convoy, Burkinabe President Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba said on Tuesday that “this umpteenth cowardly and barbaric attack is proof that we must continue the fight against all those who refuse the outstretched hand”. .

“I have strong belief that we will defeat them, it’s only a matter of time,” he added.

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been the target of terrorist attacks that have left many victims and thousands of internally displaced people.

In a joint statement, 28 international aid organizations warned on Monday that nearly one in ten people in Burkina Faso, or nearly 2 million people out of 20 million inhabitants, is displaced because of the conflict.
