Sometime in the fall of 2019, the first human — the so-called index patient or patient zero — was believed to be infected somewhere in the Wuhan area of China with a new type of coronavirus that can cause severe lung disease. What has happened since then is well known. But how and why this first CoV infection of a human came about, which led to the most severe pandemic in almost a hundred years, is also the subject of heated debates more than two years later.
