Two types of fish are prohibited for pregnant women | health

Women’s Health magazine reported that some types of fish are prohibited for women during pregnancy, namely raw fish such as sushi and smoked fish.

The magazine concerned with women’s health explained that these types of uncooked fish contain bacteria and fungi that raise the risk of infection with what is known as “listeriosis”, which in turn raises the risk of premature birth, miscarriage or stillbirth.

Pregnant women are more susceptible to listeriosis due to their weakened immune system.

Symptoms of this disease are fever, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, upset stomach, headache, and stiffness at the back of the neck.

These symptoms require an urgent call for medical attention in a timely manner.

On the other hand, some fish, particularly tuna and mackerel, contain mercury in high concentrations, which can cause neurological disorders and other health problems such as impaired speech and motor skills in the fetus.
