The driver of a Volkswagen Polo lost the vehicle in a roundabout before crashing into a pillar under the E17. Two young French people were in the vehicle.
“As soon as we arrived, it was clear that the situation was extremely serious,” said Lieutenant Hans Van Poucke at Het Laatste Nieuws. “The vehicle was lying with its roof against the pillar of the bridge. One of the occupants had already died, the other was in critical condition. Sadly, he also died during the rescue operation.
“The car was traveling at 140 kilometers per hour,” said two young French people who had been overtaken by the victims just before the accident. An investigation must still clarify the exact circumstances of this accident.
