As the typhoon accompanied by rain and wind moved along the sea west of Kyushu, aircraft, ship, and railroad operations were stopped, and electricity supply to about 10,000 households was cut off.

Several people were also injured, including a person who fell and was injured by the strong wind.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Kanun is heading north at a speed of 15 km per hour in the sea 70 km south of Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, west of Kyushu, as of 8:00 pm on the same day.

The central air pressure of the typhoon is 975 hPa (hectopascal), and the maximum wind speed near the center is 30 m/s.

The maximum instantaneous wind speed is 40 m/s, and strong winds of 25 m/s or more are blowing in areas within a radius of 150 km from the center.

In particular, as the typhoon moved slowly, it brought in moist air and sent record-breaking downpours throughout Kyushu.

In Saiki City, Oita Prefecture, heavy rain of 63 mm per hour fell at 7 pm, and in Soo City, Kagoshima Prefecture, it rained 57 mm per hour.

Looking at the 48-hour precipitation, Kagoshima Prefecture’s Kingo Town (633 mm) and Yakushima Town (585 mm) recorded the highest ever observed in August.

In some areas of Misato Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, precipitation this month has already exceeded the average precipitation in August with 817 mm.
