New Zealand defeated Nepal in U19 World Cup Group D. New Zealand won by 64 runs in the match held at Buffalo Park, East London yesterday.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. Not a bad start for the Kiwis. The openers put on a half-century partnership for the first wicket.

The Kiwis lost their first wicket when the team score stood at 53. New Zealand lost the wicket of Luke Watson who scored 14 runs off 25 balls. Snehit Reddy entered the field at number three.

After Snehit came to the field, two wickets fell in quick succession on the other side. Opener Tom Jones was dismissed for 33 runs while Oliver Tewatia was also dismissed for a bronze duck.

But the New Zealand score went up when captain Oscar Jackson came on at number five. Both of them put together a partnership of 157 runs for the fifth wicket.

Akash Tripathi dismissed captain Oscar Jackson with the team score at 224. The player scored 75 runs off 81 balls.

When those who came after could not increase the score, Reddy smashed from the other side. In the end, New Zealand scored 302 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated over.

Snehit Reddy hit 147 not out off 125 balls and made waves in the Kiwis line-up. The star’s innings consisted of 11 fours and six sixes.

Like Ish Sodhi and Rachin Ravindra in the New Zealand senior team, Snehit Reddy also has an India connection. The actor was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Later, the actor’s family moved to New Zealand.

With the strength of Snehit, New Zealand set a winning target of 303 runs before Nepal. But Nepal could not reach that goal.

Arjun Kumal tried his best with 90 runs off 104 balls, but he did not get much support from others and Nepal had to concede defeat.

Nepal managed to score 238 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated over.

After this win, New Zealand are second in Group D behind Pakistan. New Zealand’s next match is on January 23. Opponents are Afghanistan.
