An additional 6,800 employees are being called to stop working in what the union describes as Stellantis’ “largest and most lucrative factory” in the United States.

The American strike is gaining ground. The UAW automobile union announced on Monday October 23 the extension of the movement, which has affected the sites of the three major American manufacturers (Ford, General Motors and Stellantis) since mid-September, to the Shap assembly plant. Located in Sterling Heights (Michigan), it is a major factory of the Franco-Italian-American group Stellantis.
In total, 6,800 additional employees are therefore called to stop work in what the union describes as “largest and most lucrative factory” of Stellantis, which notably owns Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Dodge and Peugeot, in the United States. Shap produces one of the group’s best-selling vehicles, the Ram 1500 pickup.
This brings the total of strikers in the three groups to more than 40,000, out of the 146,000 registered at the UAW. This is the first time that the “Big Three”, the three historic American manufacturers, have been affected by such a social movement at the same time.
